Who We Are

Our Purpose and History

The Club’s purpose has always remained the same:

“To promote good fellowship and sportsmanship through the game of curling in and around the City of Calgary.”

This commitment is reflected in the lifelong friendships formed and the camaraderie shared on the ice.

Women first curled in Calgary in 1908, playing a four-end game that caused quite a stir. At the time, the expectation for women was to focus on etiquette, handiwork, raising children, and managing the home. Yet, these were the women of the new West—pioneers eager to embrace sport and community.

In the early fall of 1919, a meeting was held in the basement of Calgary City Hall. Female curlers from different groups came together and formally established the Calgary Ladies Curling Club.

In September 2019, our Club proudly celebrated its 100th Anniversary—making us one of the oldest continuously operating women’s curling clubs in the country. This legacy is owed to the dedication of our founding members, past presidents, countless volunteers, and today’s Executive Committee who continue to carry the Club forward.
