In Memory of Myrna McKay
Myrna passed away on May 30, 2018 in Calgary. A long time member of the Calgary Ladies curling club, Myrna joined in the 1983-84 season. She was born on January 12, in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and grew up in Red Deer Lake and Calgary, residing for many years in Crossfield.
Spending time with family and friends was a big part of Myrna’s life as well as sports and volunteering. Myrna played women’s fast pitch with the Timac Tires team winning many provincial championships and was part of the first team to represent Alberta in 1969 at the Canada Summer Games in Halifax, bringing home a silver medal. Curling was a big part of Myrna’s life and in 1981 her team won the Canadian Championships and advanced to the World’s in Perth, Scotland, placing second.
Following retirement Myrna volunteered at the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation area and was honored as the Volunteer of the Year in 2005. Another organization to benefit from Myrna’s volunteerism was the Millarville Racetrack. In 2011, that organization recognized her dedication by presenting her with a Lifetime Membership. Myrna loved to travel especially to the Yukon and Alaska.
She will be missed by her many family members and friends. A service was held for Myrna at the Millarville racetrack on June 21st.
